Ebay Find: '61 Chopped Caddy

Here's a '61 Cadillac from the Atlanta area that's had one of the coolest body mods done to it; a chop. The new roof line really gives this car an awe inspiring profile that looks like it roared straight out of an episode of the Jetsons. eBay link after the jump.

Those big wheels help keep the car from looking as massive as it really is and the multi-spoke design really suits the car well. We're not sure if they're the best quality wheels or if they look as good in person as they do in our mind, but wheels are any easy modification and she'd look just as good sittin' on set of moon eyes. Don't be fooled by the swooning, this is still a project. The seller states that it needs a headliner and the windshield that is installed is cracked badly. The seller also states that he has a replacement windshield that has already been cut. Remember that should anything happen any piece of glass you would have to spend a pretty penny to replace it, custom cut glass does not come cheap! The ride height looks good in pics but sitting on grass is an old trick for making a car look lower in photographs. A chopped Caddy ranks high on our list of lusty dream cars and we would love to drop the hybrid power train from a new Escalade into this beast to have the ultimate daily cruiser.

Questions that should be asked: Where body work has been done (and test body-filler thickness with varying strengths magnets)? Is the interior complete? Are any prior accidents visible on the chassis or under the panels? How is it to roll around in such an AWESOME car?

Lets remember that when this car came out Cadillac was not just competing with American luxury brands but the best the world had to offer. These cars were built by hand with acres of metal and miles of chrome. Comparing the interior material quality to Cadillacs of today is like watching the complete history of Lindsey Lohan; a really charming, honest start followed by years of flat bodies, coke induced self destruction, and a sudden turn around with a lot of plastic. Well... we're still waiting on the turn around from Lindsey but Cadillac has got some solid products on the market today (mmmmmm, cts-v wagon) that are once again competitive with the best the world has to offer. But really, all we want is the good ole days. The Cadillacs of yore that take up more square feet than your living room and feel like two full size couches cruising down the freeway to the wonderful burble of a V8.

These cars are truly "magic" in a way that only something from the late 50's and early 60's can be. This tastefully modified classic has given all of us here at Carticular Americana Dreams of a slow cruise down Main street on Saturday nights.
